The Scout Uniform

Members of the World Wide Scout Movement are required to wear a uniform although the type varies from country to country.  New Zealand was one of the first countries to change from the traditional khaki/beige type uniform. In 1997 Scouting NZ adopted a green polo shirt with the traditional Scout scarf as the official uniform. This less formal polo shirt and the alternative sweatshirt has become accepted by the Movement.

  • For warmer regions the "Official" green Polo shirt is the uniform shirt

  • For cooler regions the "Capital" Sweatshirt is the alternative shirt

  • The type and style of trousers and footwear is determined by the Scout Group. Please check with the Group Leader and or Committee as to the standard required for your particular Group. Many have chosen jeans and sneakers, others have elected to wear the local school uniform trousers and shoes.

  • The scarf is provided by the Scout Group.

  • The Sea Scouts currently wear a white open necked shirt, navy shorts or longs and black shoes as their official uniform.

A full range of Polo "Official" shirts are available from SCOUTING DIRECT in Hamilton..

A range of Scout branded sweatshirts, polar fleece jackets and hats are also available.

Please note: Kea Scouts do not usually wear the official polo shirt. Most Kea Clubs wear a tee shirt of their own design along with a smaller version of the group Scarf. Please refer to the Adult leader before purchasing clothing for Kea Scouts.

Badges

Members of Scouting NZ do not wear badges on the official uniform shirt.
