New Crew Leader appointed
Our congratulations go to Nicky
Hodgson who has been elected Crew Leader of the M.J. Savage Rover Crew. This
brand new crew already has 13 members.
Manukau Zone well represented
on the National and International Scene
Manukau Zone currently has five leaders on National Task Forces, National
committees and International visits..
- Trudie Graham is Assistant National Venturer Leader, and assists on the
Programme Task Force
- David Thorpe is Zone Leader, and chairs the National Award Scheme Panel
- Steve Graham - Zone Scout Leader, is a member ot the National Programme Panel.
- Craig Gardner - Rover Squire, is a member of the National Council of Scouting
NZ.
- Craig Bleakley - Scout Leader, is representing NZ at the Asia Pacific Youth
Forum in Japan
Manukau City presents Awards
to two Scout Leaders
Jocelyn Gardner (Zone Cub Leader), and Jenis Baldock (Group Leader of Captain
Musick Air Scouts) were recently presented with Manukau City Volunteer Awards
for their extended service to Scouting. The awards were presented at a
civic reception by Mayor Sir Barry Curtis.
Rover Squire elected to the
National Council of Scouting New Zealand
Congratulations go to Rover Squire Craig Gardner on being elected to the
National Council of Scouting New Zealand as a youth representative for the
Central Region of the North Island. Craig is one of 2 youth representatives
representing the region. It has been a great year for Craig as earlier this year
he was selected to represent New Zealand at a reception in the UK for Queen's
Scouts. During the reception he met and spoke to Queen.

New Group Leaders
appointed
We are pleased to announce that Paul
Glenton and Chris Patterson of the Buckland's Beach Sea Scout Group have been
appointed co Group Leaders of the Group. They follow in the footsteps of
Graeme Brown the previous Group Leader who has reitired from the position after
12 years in the role. Graeme remains with the Group as Project Manager
overseeing the building of the new hall for the Group.

Young Leader selected to
visit Japan
Congratulations to Craig Bleakley (Scout Leader Farm Cove Group) on being
selected to represent New Zealand youth at an Asia Pacific Region Scout meeting
in Japan. While at the meeting Craig will be meeting with young leaders from
throughout the Asia Pacific Region and discussing a wide range of issues
affecting youth throughout the region.

Co-Group Leaders Retire
We announce with regret that Sue and
Trevor the Group Leaders of St Georges Papatoetoe have completed 11 years
service to the group and have decided that now their respective children have
left the Group they intend to retire. We thank them sincerely for their tireless
work for what has become the largest Scout Group in the Papatoetoe Community.
Both were awarded the Medal of Merit at a recent Parents night held at the
Group.
We welcome Malcom Hansen to the position of Group Leader at Mangere Bridge and thank him for taking on the task of rebuilding the group..

Sea Odyssey Launched
Te Puru Group Leader Paul Maguire invited
50 guests and Keas, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers from the Beachlands and Maraetai
communities to a launching cereomony for their branch new Sea Scout Cutter
"Sea Odyssey". The
local Umupuia Kaumatua were present and held a Mihi, and a local church minister
blessed the boat. The launching itself was carried out by Finn Hanson who built
the boat and assisted the group in a big way.

Kaiaua Sea Scouts Started
Congratulations to Kathy Walsh of
Kaiaua on being the driver behind the newly registered Sea Scout Group in her
community. The day after the Group was registered, 10 potential Scouts visited
Hamilton to take part in the Waikato Sea Scout Spring Regatta.

Neil Dingle
Neil Dingle a former leader in Scouting who clocked up 60+ years of service to Scouting is in Middlemore Hospital after a fall last week. Neil's last appointment was with the Minerva Scout group in the Howick Pauranga District.

Mark Ball - Group Leader Pukekohe
Congratulations to Mark Ball and his team of highly motivated leaders. Pukekohe Group have increased their group numbers from 74 to 84 this year. This is an increase of 13.5%. Well done team.

Mark Becroft - Asst Area Commissioner
Mark has announced his retirement from Scouting after 7 years as a Cub Leader, Scout Leader and more recently Assistant Area Commissioner for the Toi Toi District. We wish Mark all the best as he and Andrea pursue other interests and thank Mark sincerely for his generous contributions of time and sharing his knowledge and skill as a member of the Zone Training Team. Mark will step down on the 30th Sept 2006.
Vicky Bowden - Area Training Leader
Vicky has given us due warning that she will be stepping down as Area Training Leader in 2007 as she intends visiting the World Jamboree in the UK and then living in Christchurch upon her return to New Zealand. Vicky has served three very busy years as Area Training Leader and was Area Rover Leader for several years prior to that. A farewell will be held early to mid 2007.

Margaret Hawketts - Bar to the Silver Tiki Award
Congratulations to Margaret
Hawketts upon receiving this award. Mararet who is Area Kea Leader has served as
a Warranted leader in Scouting for over 25 years. During this period she
has started dozens of Kea Clubs and trained 100s of new leaders, many of whom
have gone on to become Cub and Scout Leaders.
